Ground Systems Capabilities

Within BAE Systems' Land & Armaments operating group, the Ground Systems business unit develops and manufactures major ground combat systems for the U.S. Army and Marine Corps, and allied nations.

  • The Bradley Combat System has delivered outstanding mobility, lethality, and survivability under the most challenging close combat urban scenarios as well as the open combat of desert warfare in multiple mission roles.
  • The M109A6 Paladin howitzer, M88A2 HERCULES Recovery Vehicle, M113 armored personnel carrier, and AAV7 amphibious assault vehicle are other current products.
  • Mine-protected wheeled vehicles - the Iraqi Light Armored Vehicle (ILAV) and RG33 - round out the product offering.

Ground Systems has 3,200 employees in multiple locations in the U.S. A leading player on the Future Combat System Manned Ground Vehicle development team, the business is responsible for three of the eight manned variants, and for major elements of the common platform design. Ground Systems' technologists and production teams also supply customers with sophisticated subsystems and components such as ceramic body armor, transparent gunshields, reactive and passive armor kits, traction drives, active protection suites, and unmanned ground vehicle capabilities.

Ground Systems is certified to ISO9001 standards and the highest level (Level 5) on the Capability Maturity Model - Integrated (CMM-I) for systems and software engineering.
