BAE Systems is committed to nothing short of global transformation. This commitment rests on a solid, balanced foundation of core capabilities built upon company strengths: teaming, concept development, design, training systems, flexible manufacturing, life-cycle support, and technology & innovation.
Leading the Way by Visualizing the Future
BAE Systems Modeling and Simulation experts across the company create and employ a wide range of tools and technologies to facilitate product acquisition and development for weapon systems like the 155-mm Advanced Gun System (AGS) and the Future Combat Systems.
These include:
- Design sensitivity and optimization modeling;
- Detailed physics-based simulations; and
- Rapid virtual prototyping techniques, allowing real-time simulations and a direct interface with external war-gaming environments.
BAE Systems, for example, has developed simulation techniques that rapidly determine the impact of design changes on key performance parameters such as weapon range and lethality. A wide variety of physics-based models are used to support the design process and the integration of subsystems.
The company's Modeling and Simulation experts use virtual prototyping technologies to continually evaluate the operations and performance of systems in development. These virtual prototypes integrate CAD models (based on detailed design data) with control system software, and then operate within a 3-D visualization environment.
The virtual prototypes created in BAE Systems laboratories greatly mitigate the risks associated with development projects for the company's military customers, and allow changes and adaptations to be made in record time.
