The world has changed. Modern weapon systems must be smart, capable, and adaptable. Microelectronic technologies make that possible.
The Defense Microelectronics Activity (DMEA) was founded because technological superiority is the essential underpinning of U.S. military strategy and national security. Yet that security is compromised by:
- The rapid pace of technological development, and
- The commercial microelectronics technology business climate surrounding microelectronics technology.
These factors add difficulty to developing new military capabilities and electronic systems, and to providing reliable, long-term life-cycle support for fielded systems.
DMEA was established by the Office of the Secretary of Defense to jointly act as the DOD Center for microelectronics acquisition, transformation, and support. DMEA is composed of highly specialized engineering facilities and microelectronic engineers working in close partnership with the major defense contractors and the semiconductor industry to provide electronic systems development and support for fielded systems across all U.S. military services, non-DoD organizations, and foreign military sales.
