SAN DIEGO — On February 20, 2008 the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Triton Engineering Student Council hosted an outreach event entitled “ENSPIRE” for over four hundred local eighth grade students. This event was created to introduce engineering futures to our youth. Community businesses, including BAE Systems, Network Systems sponsored and attended the event to share information about our business and inspire the students to explore the areas of science and mathematics.
The highlight of the event was a competition where teams of students were assigned the task of building one of three structures: the tallest tower, the longest bridge, or a free-choice structure – all out of straws.
