Ship Repair Norfolk About Us

Welcome to BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair , the corporate headquarters of America's leading non-nuclear ship repair, modernization, conversion and overhaul company.

Founded in 1915, the company has a long, colorful, illustrious history. From modest beginnings, repairing tugboats and wooden hull schooners, we have been partnering with commercial and government customers since its inception. With the arrival of the Titan dry dock in 1979, the company demonstrated its expertise and capabilities by dry docking and repairing the world's cruise ships, starting with the TSS CARNIVALE for Carnival Cruise Lines. Our customers benefit from knowledge and expertise shared among our shipyards. We perform almost any size job, regardless of the complexity of the project, from routine maintenance to major overhauls and modernization.

We began servicing Navy ships during World War I. Ever since, the United States Government has been one of Norfolk Ship Repair's major customers, and the shipyard has achieved international prominence. Located in a principal commercial and U.S. Navy megaport, the 107-acre site serves the Navy fleet, as well as cruise ship owners, LNG tanker owners, ferries and commercial cargo ships, to name a few. In 1998 the company underwent extensive remodeling and modernization of its entire Norfolk facility.

The shipyard is fully equipped with state-of-the-art shop capabilities, dry docks - including the 950-ft. "TITAN" and the "OLD DOMINION," the company's newest 14,000-ton dry dock - and pier space. Norfolk Ship Repair DMI Division is the exclusive U.S. associate with Diesel Marine International Ltd., which is the only state-of-the-art reconditioning facility in North America. DMI Division supplies the world's large bore and medium speed diesel industry with high quality, world-renowned components. Additionally, Norfolk Ship Repair provides offsite emergent down river repair services, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

The shipyard, perfectly positioned to serve the varied requirements and needs of its government and commercial customers, prides itself on treating its skilled, experienced workforce with dignity and respect, customer satisfaction and on-time delivery of a quality product. Norfolk Ship Repair also maintains extensive safety awareness programs, environmental protection best practices and a sparkling-clean, orderly facility.
