Doug Belair
Mr. Belair is the President of BAE Systems Technology Solutions & Services.
He began his career in 1979 with General Electric Defense Systems as a software engineer on the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) missile strategic guidance program. In the six years that followed, he took on engineering roles of increasing responsibility until GE named him Chief Engineer for the FBM Trident II Fire Control System development in 1985.
He received his MBA from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University in 1987 and in 1993, when GE sold the Defense Systems Division to Lockheed Martin, Mr. Belair accepted a program management position with the new company. In this role, he introduced commercial hardware and software into the Trident Weapon System and developed the incremental modernization approach that eventually led to the Fire Control BACKFIT program. As a result of his work, Mr. Belair received the inaugural Lockheed Martin Corporate Nova Award for Strategic Excellence.
In 1997, Lockheed Martin named Mr. Belair Technical Director of Defense Systems and assigned him to bring military technologies into the commercial marketplace. During his two-year tenure as Technical Director, he successfully introduced liquid propellant technology into the automotive airbag industry and leveraged computer-based diagnostics developed for the Navy into an automotive maintenance system for Chrysler Corporation.
In early 1999 Lockheed Martin sold Defense Systems to General Dynamics and GD named Mr. Belair Vice President of Programs for the Division. In this role, he took full P&L responsibility for Navy programs and accepted the challenge to build on previous commercial successes at Chrysler. In June of 2000, Mr. Belair directed a number of acquisitions and was named Vice President and General Manager of TechSight, a General Dynamics commercial venture selling electronic documentation and computer based diagnostics technology in the airline and automotive markets.
In late 2001 when GD exited the commercial marketplace, Mr. Belair returned to his FBM program roots. He joined BAE Systems in 2002 and was named Vice President of the Undersea Warfare Systems Integration Division in February of 2003.
