George Rose
George Rose was appointed to his present role as Group Finance Director of BAE Systems plc in April 1998.
George Rose was born in Blackburn, Lancs., in 1952 and educated at St Mary's College, Blackburn, and Thames Polytechnic where he earned BA (Hons) in Business Studies. He also qualified with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
He joined the Ford Motor Company as a Graduate Trainee in 1972 until moving to Leyland Vehicles Limited - the commercial vehicle operations of British Leyland - in 1976. He held a variety of finance positions around the UK culminating in Group Controller, Leyland Trucks.
In 1988 George was appointed Finance Director of Leyland DAF UK and subsequently Director, Group Control of DAF NV located in the Netherlands. He returned to the UK in 1992 and after a short spell as Rover Group's Company Controller, he joined British Aerospace.
At British Aerospace he was appointed Director of Financial Control and Accounting in June 1992 and in October 1995 went on to the new position of Director of Finance and Treasury. He has been a Non-Executive Director of SAAB AB since July 1998, and is a Non-Executive Director of National Grid PLC and is a former Non-Executive Director of Orange plc. He is also a member of the Financial Reporting Review Panel.
George is married and his hobbies include playing golf.
