The realisation of an efficient and effective capability means much more than making different equipment and system work together as a coherent whole. The demands of the warfighter are increasingly met through a detailed understanding of operating domains and a robust, auditable, approach to system engineering, developing full "business" solutions across the enterprise.
Integrated System Technologies are fully equipped to meet the demands of the rapidly evolving modern and future markets in defence, homeland security and complex, mission critical solutions.
We are committed to meeting our customer’s desire for highly reliable, time critical decision-making systems.
People and Locations
The constant development of our people and processes helps to differentiate us within the marketplace.
We have more than 3500 people, three quarters of whom are skilled, qualified (degree or above) engineers.
We enjoy the benefit from the continuous development of our people, annually investing in personal development plans and professional training. Functional in-house ‘Developing You’ training courses ensure that project managers, engineers and commercial managers are up to date with the latest tools and techniques in their areas of expertise.
We are also committed to investing in our future by encouraging the development of our graduate intake. In 2006, seventeen new graduates joined us on the BAE Systems Graduate Development Framework.
Comprehensive, week-long induction courses are provided where new graduates are given the tools to take responsibility for their own career development and maximise the opportunities to realise their career aspirations.
Our people are regularly seconded to the UK MOD Integrated Project Teams and Departments of Equipment Capability, enabling the customer to leverage from our knowledge and experience gained from industry.
We operate from 13 main sites from across the UK: Chelmsford, Christchurch, Cowes, Cwmbran, Dorchester, Filton, Frimley, Hillend, New Malden, Portsmouth, Sunbury, Warton and Waterlooville. To maximise the capabilities of our workforce across 12 geographic locations, we engender a collaborative working environment, using shared data and design environments, web services and search engines through our intranet.
Expertise
We are equipped to operate at any or all stages of the requirement lifecycle. In a consultative capacity, we can provide some of the very best experts to add real value during the concept creation phases of requirement solution.
We are equally capable of driving broad concepts through to detailed requirements for development and execution. Maintaining capabilities through-life are equally key, either through traditional logistic support methods or more advanced partnership and contracting for availability.
Our capability covers four main disciplines:
- Embedded C4ISTAR – system solutions at the platform level.
- Non-Embedded C4ISTAR – system solutions to support platforms and synchronise platforms across the battlespace.
- National Security and Resilience – system solutions to protect against boarder infiltration, attack on high value assets, EEZ protection and harbour protection.
- Sub-System Technology – key technology developments to create the next generation of products.
We understand the operational environment and the complex interactions of equipment, people and processes that take place within it. This is why we deliver effective solutions across all the major domains in the defence firmament: Land, Maritime, Air, Joint and National Security & Resilience.
Our Waterlooville site is the centre of UK expertise within BAE Systems and a market leader in underwater warfare. An extensive pedigree in providing leading defence solutions, the product portfolio includes:
- Torpeodoes for submarine, surface and airborne platforms
- Unmanned underwater vehicles
- Mine warfare
- Diver reconnaissance
- Maritime Automonous Vehicles
Innovative Solutions
We continually strive to deliver innovative solutions to customers’ problems, recognising that resolution often involves much more than technical superiority.
In cases where such differentiation cannot be secured from the marketplace, we invest in our own technologies, capabilities and products. In all other cases, we work systematically with our partners and suppliers to bring the ‘best of the best’ from the market.
- Over 60% of our FALCON communications system for the UK Army is derived from the supply base and the same is true of some 90% of the value of the SAMPSON radar – the only S band active array in volume production.
- Linking the “sharp end” of warfighting with real equipment has enabled us to secure a major role as training systems provider for the UK and overseas armed forces.
- Detailed modelling and immersing “real” warfighters within simulations has enabled us to develop innovative solutions – often counter-intuitive ones, where a change of “process” is lower cost and more effective than new equipment.
- Similarly, a thorough review of support processes has significantly reduced costs whilst improving availability of in-service equipment.
Our level of operational understanding is enhanced by experience gained from implementing solutions in the world’s most demanding environments. We bring together the best available people, products and technology – resulting in innovative, through-life C4ISTAR systems solutions.
We shape our solutions by working in partnership with our customers, ensuring that each specific need is satisfied. This collaborative approach lets us understand our customers’ operational aspirations – now, and in the future.
Through operational analysis, we can advise customers on the optimum approach to solving their problems.
We strive to be part of our customers’ organisations, evolving with them and adding through-life value. For our customers, our involvement means:
- Expanding their expectations.
- Thinking beyond their boundaries.
- Meeting their changing needs.
- Maximising their resources.
- Delivering on their trust in us
Core offerings
Our complete solutions are based on three core offerings:
Systems Solutions
We have considerable experience in developing synthetic environments, evaluating and visualising the appropriate technologies with which to address our customers’ lines of development.
Value added systems integration
We understand the value chain and competitive environment in which we operate.
This translates into providing cost-effective solutions that meet our customers’ business needs – today, and in the future.
We add value to systems integration by incorporating existing and future systems, products and processes within the customers’ preferred solution.
Best-in-class products
Whether using our own, preferred or competing products, we seek to access and develop best-in-class products. These products can be tailored to the solution to ensure optimum performance and functionality – and minimise risk. This could incorporate current or future BAE Systems or third party product.
Whatever its origin, we will always insist that the product used is the correct product for the solution.
Our pedigree comes from a long-established track record of delivering complex system integration projects in defence electronics.
Our ability to deliver complete solutions is underpinned by integrated business capabilities in: project and contract management; supply chain management; systems, software, hardware and manufacturing engineering; and through-life management (the support of deployed systems).
These business capabilities have evolved over time to meet the demands of delivering defence projects to 21st century military organisations. They represent considerable investment in people, processes, tools, and facilities.
Extensive Research and Development (R&D) funding ensures that our products sit on the leading edge of technology, and that our knowledge ultimately provides competitive advantage.
Our R&D covers the full spectrum of Technology Readiness Levels and collaborative research is carried out with Universities, Ministry of Defence laboratories, component suppliers and other partners. We have access to research carried out by BAE Systems, through its dedicated Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs).
As we move forward, we will continue to develop and acquire the technologies and capabilities to be a leader in our field. Our expertise will continue to span the full spectrum of the value chain – from consultancy and concept, through design and manufacture, and on to through-life support solutions.
