Capability Development

The Capability Development team aims to develop new levels of engagement with the UK MOD and, through constant dialogue and exchanges of ideas, build a deeper understanding of the needs of the central MOD, the acquisition community and the Front Line Commands.

Capability Development is engaged in developing methods, systems and working environments which support option analysis and trade-off techniques to deliver evidenced decision making.

The major focus of recent work has been in the area of Through-Life Capability Management (TLCM). Working with a number of MOD Capability Managers and Directors of Equipment Capability, the team has developed a strong understanding of capability planning and the role industry can play in helping the MOD meet the challenges of the future.

Capability Development is working on a number of themes including:

Toolset Development

  • The creation of decision support aids under its TRAiDE environment (TLCM Robust Acquisition integrated Decision Environment) aimed at bringing (extant) analysis tools into an inclusive environment where a single view of the truth is needed.

Direct support to the MoD Unified Customer

  • Topics include acquisition Change, Capability analysis and TLCM techniques and solutions
  • Medium Weight Capability

Pilot Programmes jointly with Business Units and MoD to demonstrate practical decision support methods and benefits

  • Future Combat Air Capability (in partnership with Military Air Solutions)
  • Land Readiness and Availability Pilot (in partnership with Land Systems)
  • Competency Development
  • Supporting TLCM and its impact
